Why Get an FASD Assessment?
A multidisciplinary FASD assessment looks at all areas of functioning and will give a better picture of a child’s strengths and weaknesses. This allows a child to receive help in areas that are difficult for her and also to excel in areas that are strengths.
An assessment may open doors to additional services and/or government benefits. Some services and/or benefits require that a formal assessment is completed to show why a child may need the services and/or benefits.
For older children it is important for them to have questions answered about them. Throughout their lives they may have felt inadequate and have never understood why they struggled at home, school and in social relationships. Diagnosis may provide them understanding as to why they feel “different”.
